EXCLUSIVE: Interviews with Shearer & Schmeichel

England and Denmark legends talk about their UEFA EURO experiences

As part of our UEFA EURO 2024™ coverage, we spent some time with two greats of the game – Shearer and Schmeichel – who took us through their experiences at previous UEFA EURO tournaments.

England’s UEFA Euro 1996™ Heartbreak

The UEFA Euro 1996™ tournament was iconic. This was especially true for Alan Shearer who went on to win the tournaments golden boot despite going into the competition on the back of a 12-game goal (2 year) goal drought for England. UEFA Euro 1996™ was also famous for birthing the best football song ever: Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home) By The Lightning Seeds ft. Badiel and Skinner.

Denmark’s UEFA Euro 1992™ Win

Despite winning UEFA EURO 1992, Denmark didn’t actually qualify. They only entered the tournament as a result of Yugoslavia’s disqualification (due to the dissolution of the Yugoslav state). Denmark’s win is largely considered as the main reason why the back-pass rule was introduced.

Here are a few of our Shearer and Schmeichel cards over the years!
