Clayton Kershaw and Mike Trout, two long-time franchise cornerstones in the City of Angels, are trying to make their returns from long-term injury setbacks as the second half of the MLB season rolls along.
Kershaw to Make Return Tonight
The Los Angeles Dodgers legend has not pitched in a game this season. Last year, he ended his season by giving up six earned runs in a third of an inning to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the NLDS. It’s been a long road back, but Kershaw’s return comes at a great time for the Dodgers, whose starting rotation has been decimated by injuries. Walker Buehler, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Dustin May are all sidelined, with May out for the year. “I’m excited to be back,” said Kershaw. “It’s been a long time.” Fittingly, the three-time Cy Young Award winner will take the hill to face the rival San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium. Kershaw is 26-16 against the Giants, with a 2.01 ERA.
Trout Exits Rehab Assignment
The news is not as good for 11-time All-Star Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels. The outfielder last played on April 29, and has been trying to overcome a left knee injury. He lasted only two innings in his first rehab assignment game at Triple-A Salt Lake. Trout’s recent career has been frustratingly full of injury problems. Since 2021, the superstar has played in only 266 of a possible 588 regular season games. Trout will be reevaluated this week.
